The contribution of preoperative MRI evaluation to emergency surgical management of perianal abscesses

Objective: Perianal abscesses occur as a result of an infection in the anal gland due to obstruction ducts opening crypts. Preoperative use MRI reduces risk recurrence, fistula formation, and postoperative fecal incontinence it allows detailed anatomical imaging. The aim this study is investigate contribution preoperative reducing recurrence surgical complications patients who underwent emergency surgery for perianal abscess.
 Material Methods: A total 206 with abscess evaluated not between January 2016 2021 were included retrospective study. had no history or local drainage applied region. In addition demographic data patients, complications, hospitalization duration, ratio, findings are evaluated.
 Results: period, was found 16 (%13.2) 121 cases MRI, while disease recurred 24 (%28.2) 85 operated without evaluation. presence significantly higher lower group that period (p=0.033, p=0.012 respectively).
 Conclusion: Contrary popular belief, treatment easy high rate association fistula, different types spreads abscesses. Therefore, most useful diagnostic method detecting additional pathologies.
